Introducing Mohammad Amir Anwar to the Geonet project

We are lucky to have Mohammad Amir Anwar joining our team in the Geonet project!

Amir is a Human Geographer by training, and his work has focused on geography of globalisation, political economy and development in the Global South, with a special focus on India and Africa. He is currently researching the growth of knowledge economy in Sub-Saharan Africa and the role of digital work on African population particularly those at the ‘bottom of the pyramid’.

He joins myself, Sanna and Nicolas for the Geonet Project, and will be investigating low-skilled knowledge work (e.g. microwork, call centres, contact centres etc.) and its impacts on the growth of Sub-Saharan Africa’s knowledge economy and its development potential.

Amir received a PhD from Trinity College Dublin. His doctoral thesis explored the political economy of the growth and development of Special Economic Zones in India. Previously, he has worked as a Research Assistant for an Irish Research Council funded project on the role of information and communication technologies in enterprise development and industrial change in Africa. Before joining the OII, he was at the University of Johannesburg as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow.

You can read more about him on his profile page.

He is a great addition to our team, and I’m sure we’ll have much to share in the months ahead.
